Gift Guide: Valentine’s Gifts for Him

Gift Guide: Valentine's Gifts for Him
As a follow up to my post on Valentine’s Gifts for Her, I decided to put together a little gift guide for the men in our lives. While I admittedly did not consult any men in the making of this, for whatever reason I feel like I have a good idea of the things they like to receive. Most guys that I know don’t tend to treat themselves very often, so Valentine’s Day is a good time to do it for them. You want to make them feel stylish, pampered, and loved.
You can’t go wrong with a comfy flannel, and if your guy has a record player, a record can be a really thoughtful gift that he’ll appreciate. This body wash smells amazing – I bought it once at a local beauty boutique, but it keeps selling out!

Gift Guide: Valentine’s Gifts for Her

Valentine's Gifts: For Her
Do you feel like you either have to love or hate Valentine’s Day? I have a date this year, but I’ve been single for a few years before this one and I’ve honestly never disliked the holiday. It’s a good excuse to eat food in the shape of hearts and wear pink and to treat your loved ones (or yourself!) Valentine’s Day gifts are usually pretty cheesy (maybe even kind of lame) so I rounded up a few cute things that girls would actually like.
This Chloe perfume is my ultimate favourite – it’s a light and feminine, but the scent lasts, and the bottle is just so pretty. I’ve been thinking about buying a few lacy things, and this Free People bralette looks comfortable and sexy. I’m obsessed with David’s Tea, and this blend of Earl Grey Tea with chocolate and rose petal sounds perfect for Valentine’s Day and I’m going to go and buy it for myself immediately.

Gift Guide: Stocking Stuffers

Gift Guide: Stocking Stuffers
Can you guys believe Christmas is only 9 days away?! This year, especially the past few months, have absolutely flown by for me. Moving to a new city, starting a new job, making new friends (and keeping in touch with old), fostering a puppy… I’ve been insanely busy (in the best way) and I honestly think it’s crazy that mid December has rolled around.
Do you guys still get stockings? I actually was kind of under the impression that everyone did, until I started asking some friends. It turns out that I might be a minority. My stocking has always been one of my favourite parts of Christmas – usually I have some idea of what presents my parents are going to get me, but my stocking is always full of so many fun surprises. I usually spend Christmas morning at my dad’s house, and my step mom (I mean Santa) always puts so much thought into my stocking, and it’s so fun to get to go through everything and compare stockings with my brothers and sisters. My roommate, Kelsea, and I also decided to do stockings for each other this year, which I am super excited about. I’ve never got to fill anyone else’s stocking before!
I thought I would put together a little gift guide, just in case you still have a bit of Christmas shopping to do (I know I do!) These are a combination of favourite little treats that I already own and love, and some things that I’ve been pining after. I hope you like it!

Wanted: Pretty Home Things

Wanted: Pretty Home Things
I’ve been wanting to start posting more “lifestyle” type things, and since I just moved into my first “big girl” apartment, I figured now is a good time to start. I think that I’ll still always post more food/recipe posts than anything else, because that is my true passion, but I’m looking forward to seeing where some new, different types of posts (including travel, home, and maybe fashion) will take Sweet Mayberry. If you’ve been following along for a while, I hope that you’ll stick around!
I had this idea in my head that when I got my first apartment after University, I would be able to decorate it like some of the coolest places on Apartment Therapy – you know, trendy, New York apartments and such. I’m quickly realizing that this is not necessarily the case. First of all, moving is expensive enough with just buying the necessities, let alone more pricey furniture and home accessories. Plus, my new roommate has a bunch of furniture already, and even though our taste does tend to be a little different (and our furniture doesn’t all go together that well) it means that there is no reason for me to buy everything new. And then there is the fact that I’m not even 22 yet and I have a lot of years and probably many more apartments/condos/houses to be able to develop my specific tastes and find items that I love.
So when I do buy new things to have around the apartment, I’m trying to focus on choosing high quality items that make our place look more grown up and that I’ll be able to use for a long time. Like luxurious towels and classy accessories and kitchen tools that I’ll use forever and ever.
